He writes codexs now?
I thought he only wrote the spin off books. |
He writes the books although GW have also say that the books are not 'cannon'. That's probably because they are way too cool to be anything that one of the games designers would do and that means they can't make a rule to represent it. _________________ http://mcfonz.blogspot.com/2010/01/start.html

Right, so he's basically a freelance writer with a contract rather than GW staff. _________________

Really? Where have they said it's not canon?
I thought the whole reason for the books are that they are canon and define the universe GW created. Why have the Black Library publishing said books if they are just gumph rather than fluff? |

Good point
Brains thinking hands are typing freely....
Should read "Why have the Black Library published said books, if they are just gumph rather than fluff?"
I knew what I meant |

That wasn't what I meant.
The answer to your question is "because they can flog them to fan bois and yet still be able to alter the background on a whim if it is part of some ulterior scheme."
Also, they wouldn't anyone to think that 40k was largely the work of one freelance writer.
I do wonder what will happen in the future though.
It would be amusing if in another 40 years, Abnett's 40k books are seen as noughties/teenies/insert dreadful name for these decades with no proper name, brilliant pulp sci fi whilst the game is largely forgotten. _________________

I doubt his books will ever be seen as anything other piles of steaming shite that rank somewhere alongside Kevin J Anderson and Terry Brooks. _________________ "Not gods, Englishmen. The next best thing."
